Black Heritage Banquet
The Baylor University Black Student Union, in conjunction with the Department of Multicultural Affairs, hosts an annual Black Heritage Banquet in honor of Black History Month.
Tonee B. Shelton is a poet and author and enjoys creating poetry for live readings to engage people and inspire others to believe in themselves. She has written three volumes of poetry, In Search of Freedom (2021), Identity Crisis (2022), and Remnants (2023), and is finishing up her first book of prose, No One is Coming to Save You, coming this June, a call to action for everyone to embrace their gifts and unique talents to create the life that they desire. A licensed social worker, Tonee has the privilege of being the Chief Impact Officer for Communities In Schools of the Heart of Texas, a nonprofit that goes above and beyond to ensure kids have what they need to achieve in life. Her infamous poem, The Barbershop is the Black Church inspired her to create a group called SafeSpaceSunday, in partnership with the owner of Rocmystyle Barbershop, that builds relationships through predetermined conversations. A conversationalist, Tonee believes in the power of words and art and that if applied strategically, can transform, uplift, and inspire people to do beautiful things.
