Essay Topic:
Following several racially fueled incidents across the nation, Baylor students demanded that the university address Confederate symbols on campus and improve diversity and inclusion efforts. In 2022, Baylor Regents approved a plan that sought to address many of the priorities named by the Commission on Historic Campus Representations.
As part of this plan, for example, the Rufus Burleson statue, a former slave-owning university president, was removed from the Quadrangle and will be moved to a less prominent location. Please review the Commission on Historic Campus Representations.
Identify one action in the Baylor Regents plan that you consider to be most impactful and discuss why. Do you feel that through this plan, Baylor has addressed the underlying race issues on campus? Have you personally seen or experienced any positive side effects of the actions taken by the university?
- A scanned unofficial copy of your transcript.
- Participate in a 30-minute interview with the scholarship selection committee. Interviews will be conducted on campus.
