Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Observance Week

MLK Banner with Text

MLK Observance Week is a dedicated time to honor the life, legacy, and enduring impact of Martin Luther King Jr.. Centered around the national holiday that recognizes Dr. King’s leadership in the Civil Rights Movement, this week invites the community to reflect on his commitment to justice, service, faith, and the pursuit of equality.

Observed nationally each January, the holiday was established to commemorate Dr. King’s contributions to advancing civil rights through nonviolent activism and courageous leadership. His vision of the “Beloved Community” continues to inspire individuals and institutions to pursue equity, compassion, and collective responsibility.

At Baylor University, MLK Observance Week is more than remembrance — it is a call to action. Through lectures, service initiatives, worship opportunities, and community dialogue, the campus community is invited to engage Dr. King’s legacy in tangible ways. The week serves as a space to reflect, to learn, and to recommit to fostering a campus culture rooted in dignity, understanding, and purposeful service
