The Pearl Beverly Endowed Mentoring Scholarship
Become a PB Mentoring Scholar - $5,000 Scholarship
The Pearl Beverly Endowed Mentoring Scholarship is awarded to a current student who demonstrates a strong commitment to cultivating mentorship both at Baylor University and the broader Waco community. In addition to academic excellence, recipients are expected to actively engage in mentoring initiatives that promote personal and academic growth, foster inclusion, and build relationships.
This scholarship aims to support need-based students who are passionate about making a lasting impact through mentorship, leadership, and community service, helping to build a more inclusive and empowering environment for all.
Recipients are awarded a maximum of $5,000 for one academic year. It is awarded to a recipient only once during their enrollment at Baylor University.

Who Should Apply
For consideration, applicants must:
1. Demonstrate commitment to cultivating mentorship both at Baylor University and the broader Waco community
2. Complete the FAFSA or TASFA
3. Complete CSS Profile
4. Be a U.S. Citizen or a permanent U.S. resident
5. Be a current Baylor student with 30 credit hours and have two consecutive semesters remaining at Baylor
6. Qualify for need-based scholarships

How To Apply
The online application, resume, typed essay, and nomination letter are all due by midnight on February 12, 2025.

Requirements
A. A resume of your honors, awards, achievements, and extracurricular activities.
B. A typed essay answering each of the following:
- Being a mentor often involves learning as much from others as you teach them. What has mentoring taught you about yourself, and how have these lessons influenced your academic and personal journey? (Up to 200 words)
- Mentorship often involves creating a space where others feel heard and valued. How have you fostered such an environment at Baylor, and how has this impacted the community around you? (Up to 200 words)
- In your mentorship, how have you worked to bridge cultural, academic, or personal gaps to foster a more inclusive and understanding environment? What have these experiences taught you about diversity and community building? (Up to 200 words)
C. One specific nomination for the Pearl Beverly Mentoring Scholarship should be from someone who can speak to your experience as a mentor (this would include both mentoring on and off campus). The nominator should know your involvement well and provide specific details on your efforts to mentor.
Scholarship Details
The Pearl Beverly Endowed Mentoring Scholar must maintain a 3.0 grade point average, make satisfactory academic progress towards a degree, and continue to demonstrate commitment to support Baylor mission while cultivating future leaders. Recipients must participate in the Freshman Action Team. In addition, they must attend the Baylor Black Alumni Alliance Dinner in the Fall and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Luncheon in the Spring. Thank you letters to donor letters are required upon request. The Pearl Beverly Endowed Mentoring Scholars are encouraged to maintain a relationship with Baylor and mentor future scholarship recipients. Scholars are also asked to provide current mailing address and email address to the Pearl Beverly Endowed Mentoring committee each year after graduation.
